OVERVIEW OF RULES

Rust is a complex environment, and every possible situation can not be covered in black and white.

If you find yourself in a non-covered situation, please get in touch with any Admin/Mod team member via Discord.

Many of these offences will receive a warning; however, some may warrant an outright ban without any notice.

RFL Servers try to maintain a comfortable and healthy game environment for everyone and expect their players to contribute to it positively.

NO KILLING

This includes sleepers.  PvE = Player Versus Environment, so please keep it that way.  Consensual killing (i.e., teammates) is okay.

Other than that, DO NOT KILL OTHER PLAYERS.  Period.

NO RAIDING

Do not enter or break into other bases.  Do not destroy or mess with someone else's property.

NO STEALING/LOOTING

If it belongs to someone else, don't touch it.  Don't take things from bases.  Don't take things from boxes.  Don't take things from sleepers, corpses, or backpacks.  Don't take things from furnaces, refineries, or quarries.  Even if it's out in the open, leave it alone.

Things that are marked "free" or for public use are okay.

DO NOT ACCESS SLEEPERS, FURNACES, BOXES, etc.

Even if you have no intention of stealing, accessing players or containers will put your name in the logs.  If someone does steal from them, you could end up being blamed.

Again, things marked "free" or for public use are the exception.

NO GRIEFING

Do not make it a point to bother/harass other players.  This includes (but is not limited to): building onto other bases or blocking people from building (building over rivers, building across large areas of water that stops other players from getting there via boat), vandalism of any kind, following players or camping their base, frequently targeting or bothering others in chat or voice, shooting at players, bases, balloons, boats, etc. (even without intent to hit them), hitting other players or throwing things at them.

Don't be a nuisance.  We're all here to have fun, so please don't ruin it.

NO TRESPASSING

Similar to no raiding.  However, even if your intention is not to raid, stay out of (and off of) other bases unless invited.  It doesn't matter if it's wide open or the doors are unlocked.  This also applies to decayed bases.

If a base, shop, or area is marked "public," feel free to enter.  Areas with open vending machines are also acceptable.

If you're the owner, marking areas intended to be public with a sign is beneficial.

PvE IS NOT FREEDOM FROM CONSEQUENCES

RFL servers are PvE.  That means you will face PvE-related setbacks.

Admins will only refund items related to server issues, provable glitches/bugs, raiders, and non-consensual PvP.

You can always ask other players for help.

You play monuments and go to certain areas at your own risk.

VAC, GAME, and RUSTADMIN BANS

Players who have been banned before in the last 365 days are not welcome in the RFL community.  (edited)

SERVER CHEATING

Any form of hacking, scripting, coding, console commands or abuse/exploitation of bugs that are used to grant players an unfair in-game advantage or alter default gameplay, in general, will not be tolerated and will result in an unconditional permanent ban.

We do not welcome any players that have game or server bans that are within a year old.

If you suspect anyone of cheating, please reach out to an admin.

COUNTERING

Countering monuments, crates, heli, Bradley, cargo etc., is not allowed.  First come, first serve.

SUPPLY DROPS ARE FREE-FOR-ALL UNLESS CALLED WITH A SUPPLY SIGNAL

All loot from random supply drops and hackable crates is on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Setting up bases, turrets, traps, etc., around random drops to claim it for yourself is not allowed.  Laddering up people's bases or climbing their walls to retrieve random drops is not permitted.

All loot from called supply drops belongs to the person who threw the signal.  Do not loot anything from these if they don't belong to you.

If you are hacking a box dropped by the Chinook, you must remain in the immediate area the entire time, or the loot becomes up for grabs.

INFORM OTHER PLAYERS

As a courtesy to others, we ask that you type out in chat when you're looting a monument, doing a puzzle, have tagged heli, hacking a crate, booming Bradley, doing one of the rigs, throwing a personal supply drop etc.  To avoid confusion – think' doing' not going to do.'

DON'T BE A SCRAP RAT

You must clear everything out if you're looting junk piles along the road.  Break all barrels and empty all boxes.  Anything you don't want, throw on the ground.  If you don't do this, it will not respawn, making things more difficult for everyone.  This especially applies to crates at monuments.

RESOURCES ARE TO BE SHARED

Please don't block any part of (or limit access to) public quarries, rivers/streams, monuments, or roads.

If you are using a public quarry or pumpjack, you must be online and watching it at all times.  If you are not around and someone steals from it, we cannot help you.

If you are trying to use a pumpjack/quarry and it's not empty, and no one is around, you must ask in chat before looting/emptying it, as this helps avoid arguments later.

BUILDING RESTRICTIONS

Use your head when building.  The server has many players, so one person building larger than everyone else or with way more deployables can/may hurt player or server performance.

When building large farms or anything with a lot of wind turbines, please keep it away from monument areas, especially Outpost and Bandit Camp.

Always consider boats when building bridges (high enough for a RHIB to go under and low enough for a submarine to go under).  If a boat can't get through, an admin might destroy a part of the bridge.

Do not fence/block off any part of any streams.  These are food-spawn areas.  Please consider accessibility for others when building near.  You can build further back and pump water over to your base if necessary.  Building on the head of the stream (waterfall) is permitted.

DO NOT LEAVE TURRETS OR TRAPS OUT IN THE OPEN

Defending your base is fine, but there are limits.  Ground traps and spiked barricades outside are fine, so long as they are clearly visible.  Hiding them in bushes is not allowed.

Turrets cannot be left outside.  They must be inside your base/shop or exterior walls.  If your turrets are outside (behind your external walls), they must be covered on top and unable to shoot anyone passing (or flying) by.  If your building is open to the public, you must leave warning signs at the entrance.

If your turret shoots at someone who is not trespassing, it will be removed.

DO NOT leave traps, turrets, or anything that can harm players in public/open areas.  This includes in bushes, along the road, outside monuments, etc.

SECURE/UPGRADE YOUR BASES

To minimize raid targets, please upgrade to at least wood.  Twig bases are subject to removal by an admin if not upgraded in a reasonable amount of time.  Please also ensure doors are locked, windows are barred, roofs are sealed, and no loot is accessible from the outside.

This is not technically a bannable offence, though lost items will not be replaced if you fail to secure your base.

CARS AND HORSES

Each player is limited to owning/having in their possession only one horse and one car.  (Minis/scrap helis and boats are any amount as they are paid)

If more are found, then the extras can be removed without notice.

Admins/Mods cannot keep track of these if they get looted or go missing, so it is entirely on the player to secure and keep an eye on them when out.

BANNED BY ASSOCIATION

We thoroughly investigate all instances of raiding, looting or killing before we commit to a ban.  During an investigation, if we determine that other players were helping, a Ban By Association may be used against those players.

VERY BAD/OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE

Please avoid excessive foul language.  Profanity can unknowingly make others uncomfortable.  Players are always expected to respect others and maintain a pleasant and comfortable game environment.  If a player gets too many warnings, they will be kicked from the server.  Get too many kicks, and they'll be permanently banned from the server.  Please avoid any direct or perceived racist, sexist or homophobic words.

TOXIC BEHAVIOR

Toxic behaviour is when someone tries to hinder another player or the entire server's gameplay experience.  Prime examples of this would be spamming chat, forcing RP or targeted harassment.  This is not allowed and may result in a kick or ban.

VOICE CHAT HARASSMENT

If a player is reported several times for an in-game voice-related issue, we may issue a timed ban for using offensive language or harassment.  If this player persists, we will issue a permaban.

OFFENSIVE SIGNS AND/OR FIREWORKS

Offensive material is a very subjective area.  Signs depicting graphic imagery, bigotry, and offensive or politically charged slurs/images,  are not allowed and may be removed by an Admin/Mod without warning.  A player may also receive a ban, depending on the situation.

ADVERTISEMENTS

Do not advertise your Twitch channel, YT, other servers etc., in global chat.  People aren't here to get spammed with new content.  Instead, this should be posted in the rfl-streamers channel in the RFL Discord server.

SERVER POACHING

Advertising to any RFL server players or RFL Discord members to leave or join another Server/Discord is strictly prohibited.  It will result in an immediate ban from all our servers and Discord.  Asking players to join you on another Rust server we offer is allowed.

SERVER/ADMIN HATING

Publicly disparaging RFL Servers or its staff is unacceptable and may result in action against individuals who do so.  If you have a complaint about the server, please contact an Admin/Mod through the RFL Discord server.

MODERATORS ARE HERE TO HELP

Moderators/Admins are here to maintain the context of the server and help players.  This includes answering questions, engaging with players in positive ways, removing toxic players, helping out fresh spawns, and running community events.
